Well, I could fully familiarize myself with the game only a few years later, when I went to the balcony and in an attempt to dig up some interesting game, I fell under my arm with an anabiosis disk. Yes it was a great evening! The terrifying atmosphere of the deceased icebreaker, terrible enemies and a great picture! But time passed, and I forgot about her.
And after 11 years, I decided to climb again to the icebreaker “North Wind” to understand whether the game was so good or are it all the machinations of nostalgia, which makes it possible to objectively evaluate these or another aspects of the project.
Game process
We have to play for a polar explorer named Alexander Nesterov, who was instructed to appear on coordinates to go aboard the ship, but for some reason no one meets him, so we are in the person of our protagonist into the ship on our own and immediately lose consciousness. When we come to our senses, we realize that there is no one on this ship except us, and go deeper in order to find out what happened to the crew of the ship.

At the beginning of the game, we are immediately acquainted with one of the main mechanics – and this, mental echo. Thanks to him, our hero can survive the last moments of the deceased to correct what he died. In addition to the fact that this allows us to see the last days of the ship’s life, the salvation of people helps to move on. For example, somewhere there was a flooding and a person was frozen into the ice right at the door, using our mental echo we transferred to the past and correct the very very mistake of a person, in this case he was in a hurry that he did not notice how the bridge collapses and fell down, but we go around this place and go to salvation and go to salvation. And having returned back to the body of the protagonist, we see that the path is free and you can move on. But at the same time, there is one huge minus in this mechanics, in some memoirs it is simply not clear what you need to do.
Let us return to the mental ech a little later, and now let’s talk about the arsenal of our polar explorer.
The first third of the game we have to explore the ship only with cold weapons. And there is something to wave here, a quick, but a weak hinged castle, not so maneuverable, but a more weighty valve from the pipe, or the classic is a very slow, but extremely deadly ax. As soon as the first weapon fell into my hands, I immediately realized that the authors were inspired by the combat system from Condemned, the same slow, and clumsy.
They will also give us shoot here, the arsenal is quite impressive. Here you have a Mosin rifle in two variations with an optical sight and without, SV-40, and fans of faster firing PPSh and there are even such an exotic as a water cannon that hits a strong pressure of water, but if you use the atmosphere of the game, it disappears extremely quickly.
Since we play for a scientist, our hero knows how to shoot out of hand, all this is burdened by the fact that we are dressed in extremely uncomfortable winter clothes that affects the speed of aiming and reloading. But in general, it shoots normally, only sometimes there are times that you shoot clearly at the enemy, but the bullet seems to get into the wall behind. Fortunately, this does not happen often. But what is the point for me is extremely unsuccessful, this is the number of cartridges at the level, there are too many of them. That just transfers a game from the genre to Survavl Horror into the category of an ordinary joke.

By this I mean physical and psychological changes for certain misconduct in life. The environment will also be our opponent, because we move along a frozen ship, the temperature of which is not very high and due to this our health points are limited by how much heat is in the room.
And that we could understand this we have an indicator with two circles:
Interior – shows the temperature of the body of our protagonist and, if it is equal to 0, the hero will die.
Ways to restore the heat of the hero just a huge amount! Chandeliers, table lamps, torches, smoldering bonfires, heaters, cracks on the floor and walls, huge generators, I don’t know that it is finally, meat on the stove, boiling water in the pan and many more all kinds!
UUUF should tell a little about one graphic feature that is associated with a temperature change. Suppose we launch a huge generator and immediately notice how the heat he generated affects the room in which we are. The ice with water begins to drain from the walls, icicles begin to fall from the ceiling, the picture becomes warmer tones, until ultimately the room completely dries. I will immediately say my opinion – this is not the strength of the game. And of course, many will object to me, but do not rush to throw stones! I will give several examples why the plot in the game performs a purely nominal function.
First, about the key character.

But what is extremely funny that the developers are trying to show, the captain is simply incomprehensible to the Savior, because the game has a “legend of Danko” from the old woman Isergil. And the plot of history goes parallel to the plot of the game and, if I correctly understood the scriptwriter, the captain, this is the personification of Danko, which I am extremely disagreeable, because everything that happened on the ship, his fault and if he listened to the Starpom and bypassing the area with ice, then nothing would have happened.

And if the problems of the plot were limited only to the stupid actions of the characters. After all, in addition to this, there is also a lot of lack of innocence in the game: what kind of important load they brought, why did everyone start turning into monsters, what kind of illness was on the ship, what an angry double of GG pursues us, from where the protagonist has the opportunity to use the previously mentioned mentioned echo? Well, the cherry on the cake, the final boss of the game is the ancient Greek god of time Chronos, and this is clearly not what you expect from Survaval Horror about a frozen icebreaker. And it is truly strange.
But perhaps I in vain slander the screenwriter and all this is just a dream of gg when he fell into anbiosis from hypothermia. Don’t know. If it would be so, it would solve most of the plot problems, because it would be all in our minds.
Unfortunately, this is not so. But enough about the shortcomings, it is worth mentioning several positive points.
Here is one chapter here, which differs from everything previously seen in the game, the whole action goes without a single skirmish with enemies, only KAT scenes telling about how doctors did everything possible to overcome an epidemic of an unknown disease. And this is sincerely interesting, because you understand how much they have a hopeless situation and from this you empathize even more. There are not enough drugs for everyone, there are also not enough places because the number of patients arrives all the time and remains only that they will soon go further towards the mainland.

Also, I can also attribute the scenes to the mental echo, because almost every such scene is divorced from the main plot and allows you to survive short stories about the crew members who try to escape on the dying ship:
First, I’ll tell you about a group of interconnected mental echo: we need to deliver a balloon with air for an underwater costume on a boat, and all of us will be a perfectly floating corpse. At first he will throw barrels at us when he understands that this does not bring his fruits to jump into the water and will try to turn our small ship turn over, and after unsuccessful attempts he will try to quit it at all. But after we deliver the cylinder, we have to immerse to the bottom to strengthen the patch in the broken sections of the ship. Our partner will swim all the way above us and he does not even suspect that there is someone else below us. After we reach the holes and strengthen it with the help of a beam and a kind of jack, we have to go further and cut the pipe that transmitted the pump hose, and as soon as we finish this and our friend, the pumps will be launched, something will grab us and drag us up and this will turn out to be an old acquaintance that will open our suit like a guide and already wanted to hit the tneumWe, how his partner was distracted and while they fight, we will get out of the costume, grab the ax and kill the enemy. In childhood, this did not cause any special problems, because playing at 10-20 fps was the norm. But now on modern machines, the playing of the game is up to 20, and sometimes all 5 frames per second I think for an 11-year game, somewhat unacceptable. Personally, I think that the jamb behind the company’s own engine, which simply could not cope with the number of effects that have been screwed to it, because the load of the processor and video cards do not exceed 60%.
In my case, the situation “Nvidia Physx” slightly improved the situation. But 2 more problems awaited me, the first one was a departure when trying to start a “new game”, I decided to turn it on subtitles with it. Yes, yes, this is strange I know, but it helped me. And the second problem again with flights as the game itself I did not decide. But there is one plus in all this, the game starts on Windows 10 without problems.

“Anabiosis of the dream of the mind”, despite all its shortcomings in combat mechanics, not the best plot and poor optimization remains one of the most atmospheric games. The feeling of hopelessness, loneliness, the lifelessness of a huge ice ship conquers even now. The terrifying creatures that inhabit the ship, the opportunity to live the last hours of the life of the ship’s team, good graphics and excellent Russian voice acting help immigrants into this.
Unfortunately «Anabiosis», was the last game of the studio. The developers themselves say that the reason for this was the desire of the team to engage in mobile projects, they even organized a new studi for this. Therefore, we can only enjoy their best and last game.
